Having spent many years as a litigator, Isabelle understood the financial and emotional cost of legal proceedings and became interested in alternatives to formal court proceedings, which led her to mediation.

Following a successful career as a solicitor in London for many years as a civil litigator, Human Rights practitioner and a specialist inquest lawyer, working on many high-profile Inquests, Judicial Reviews and Public Inquiries, Isabelle moved to Hertfordshire to raise a family and pursue an alternative practice, specialising in employment law and conflict resolution. 

She is highly experienced in all aspects of employment law, including performance issues, disciplinary & grievance procedures, gross misconduct, redundancy, unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, & discrimination. What is mediation?

Mediation is a form of dispute/conflict resolution where an impartial third party, the mediator, who attempts to achieve resolution between the between parties in conflict, by guiding and facilitating communication between them.  Mediation is future focussed, allowing all parties to be heard and to explore a way forward together.

Mediation is significantly cheaper than disciplinary/formal complaints procedures or litigation. It is aimed at collaboration and communication and is much less stressful and more successful than more adversarial methods, leading to longer term commitment to decisions reached.

How long does mediation take?

Depending on the issues and complexity of a situation, most mediations take between half a day and a day.

What happens during a mediation?

At an agreed time and location, the parties come together with the mediator who listens to both separately then brings them together in a structured way to explore what has happened and how to move on from the conflict. Each person has an opportunity to speak and express their issues and concerns, with the mediator facilitating communication by drawing out how issues arose, underlying concerns and assisting them to examine areas of agreement as well as conflict.

All discussions are completely confidential, and the mediator is impartial. The overall aim is to facilitate a better understanding between people leading to an agreed resolution and way forward.
